All Rise for the Queen of Katwe

YAAAAAASSSSSS! Was all I could say when I saw the photos from the Hollywood premiere of Disney’s new drama Queen of Katwe.

Starring Lupita Nyong’o and David Oyelowo, this movie is set in Kampala, Uganda and tells the story of a young girl from Katwe; an area where most of the population appear to live below the poverty line. The young girl’s life, however, is changed when she is introduced to the game of chess.

The cast features mostly an African cast and the fact that Disney, one of the largest movie studios in Hollywood and the world, have released this feature film is definitely a groundbreaking moment in movie history.

It would appear that Lupita and David realise this too, because they repped AFRICA to the high heavens all over that Red Carpet and did so fabulously!

Queen Lupita wore a flowing Ellie Saab dress with a matching head-dress, just to let y’all know “YES I am African and proud….and so is my DAYUMM MOVIE!” YAAASSSSSS HUNNY!

King David, of Nigerian heritage also repped hard for Africa on the red carpet and clearly had a family meeting beforehand to plan exactly how he, his wife and children will do this. He didn’t just want to let the world know he was African. But his offspring too, just in case anyone got it confused. YAASSSSS OYELOWO Families!

    Adorable.💛 Actor #DavidOyelowo and his family at the #QueenOfKatwe premier. #africansweetheartweddings #family #cute
